Chris wanted a dedicated space at the bottom of the garden to use as both a garden office and gym, while also extending the home for entertaining. After visiting the showroom, the X1 stood out as the ideal choice, with its aluminium exterior offering a durable solution for a shaded garden setting. The Breif
A garden office and gym was always part of Chris’ vision for the bottom of his garden, creating a space that could extend the home while adding real day to day functionality.
“The garden was always planned to have a room of some description at the bottom. We wanted an office and a gym, something that could also work as an extension of the house when we are entertaining.”
The aim was to create a garden office and gym that felt separate from the house, while still sitting naturally within the garden.
Choosing The X1
Originally, Chris visited the showroom with a more traditional timber clad design in mind, but seeing the X1 in person changed everything.
“We actually came to order one of the more traditional designs, but saw the X1 in the showroom that same day and it completely changed our thinking.”
Positioned beneath three large chestnut trees, the garden receives very little sunlight, making durability a key consideration.
“The space gets very little sun, so the metal construction just made sense for longevity in that part of the garden.”
The X1’s aluminium exterior and clean architectural design made it a natural fit for both the setting and the long term use of the space.

The Design And Everyday Use
Chris chose an 8.7m X 3.8m X1, creating a long, spacious building that sits neatly along the back of the garden.
“We wanted something that could do both, a proper place to work, but also somewhere to train and use every day.”
Designed as a garden office and gym, the space is flexible and easy to adapt, with large glazed sliding doors bringing in natural light and opening up views across the garden.
“That short walk down the garden makes a huge difference. You feel like you are going to work, rather than just sitting somewhere else in the house.”
