Frequently Asked Questions
About the Green Retreats Ranges
Yes! All of our garden rooms and annexes come fully insulated, ensuring comfort all year round. This means you can enjoy the best garden room experience no matter the weather.
Each building range has its own tailored upgrades and options. Some features are exclusive to certain models, allowing you to personalise your space exactly how you want. To explore all possibilities, visit our options and upgrades page.
Absolutely! Our Buckinghamshire showroom displays the full range, including the A-Range, G-Range, Basebox, and Annex. At our Twickenham showroom, you can see the G-Range and Basebox. Seeing our buildings in person is the best way to experience the quality and design of the best garden room for your needs.
Yes, professional installation is included across our entire range, with the exception of the Basebox kit model, which is designed for self-assembly.
The Basebox range uses alternative, more cost-effective, building materials compared to the G-Range. Although the materials used are designed for value, the Basebox Range maintains the same high standards of quality, durability, and craftsmanship that Green Retreats is famous for. The Basebox Range has fewer features and options included as standard to keep the base price lower, but has upgrade packs available.
Our customers often choose the G-Range as the best garden office for working from home, thanks to its spacious layout, premium finishes, and versatile design. The Basebox Range is also a really popular design for our customers looking for a more cost-effective garden office that’s still perfect to use all-year-round.
The best home gym features high internal ceilings, giving you ample headroom for a treadmill, stretching up for yoga or with weights, or space for taller equipment like squat racks or reformer pilates machines. For this reason we would recommend the A-Range, which has a tall pitched ceiling.
The G-Range or Basebox Range is also a great option for lower level workout spaces that don’t require the extra headroom.
In every case, we’d recommend keeping the standard melamine interior finish of the building and not upgrading to plaster. Melamine is a soft-sheen white colour which can be easily wiped clean and won’t crack with the heavy wear of gym use.
Garden rooms are typically installed within 2–5 days, making them a fast and hassle-free home improvement. Garden annexes, as fully liveable homes, may take longer, usually 6–12 weeks including site preparation and utility connections.
The G-Range, A-Range and Basebox Ranges comply with your permitted development rights, which means you generally do not require planning permission.
The Annex buildings require planning permission, which is all covered in the price and service of this design.
Permitted Development rules may differ if:
- Your home is in a designated area (e.g. national park, conservation area, AONB, World Heritage Site).
- You live in an area with an Article 4 direction (removes permitted development rights).
- You want to use the space as a living area or for commercial use.
Key limits to qualify under permitted development:
- Max height: 2.5m if within 2m of a boundary (standard for all Green Retreats buildings, ex. The Annex).
- Must be under 50% of your total garden area.
If you should need planning for your project, our specialist teams can take care of the application on your behalf – saving you time and hassle.
Our teams can help advise whether you require planning permission for your project.

Which garden room is best for me?
Choosing the best garden room for your home depends on how you plan to use it, the design style you love, and the budget you have in mind.
If you’re after a modern garden room built from natural and premium materials, offering a wide range of upgrades and fully installed as a turnkey solution, the G-Range is an excellent choice.
For those working to a budget, Basebox delivers the same trusted Green Retreats quality at a lower price point. With options from self-build through to full installation, you can choose the solution that suits you best.
If extended height is important, the A-Range is ideal. Perfect for creating a garden gym, housing a golf simulator, or simply enjoying a more spacious environment.
And for a long-term, fully liveable solution, The Annex collection of homes and annexes offers three unique designs to choose from. Where planning permission might be a challenge, our Caravan Act–compliant annexes provide the perfect alternative.
Still not sure which is the best garden room for you?
Give us a call or pop in to your local showroom and we’d love to hear more about your project and make recommendations on which range and design would work best for you!
