Green Retreats Environmental Policy

6th November 2019

At Green Retreats, we constantly have the environment in the foreground of our policies.

We feel that as such a sizeable company, it is our responsibility to make sure we are reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible, in order to preserve our natural resources. Our environmental policy highlights the ways in which Green Retreats is attempting to make a positive impact on our Earth.

Some of the ways in which Green Retreats are making a positive impact on the environment;

Our factory and offices are 100% carbon neutral and powered by one of the UK’s largest-scale solar installations. This solar installation is located right here in the venture park and stretches over 10 acres of land. All of our timber, cardboard, plastic and paper waste is recycled on-site with Bucks Recycling. With Bucks Recycling situated at the Westcott Venture Park, this also helps to reduce CO2 emissions produced in transit. We highly believe in working with like-minded suppliers who also believe in the responsibilities we hold to preserving our natural environment. As we mentioned, our offices are 100% carbon neutral. The energy and carbon we use are then offset to decrease any negative impact on the environment.

Our construction methods are also meticulously designed to reduce our negative footprint on the environment. Starting from our foundations, we use a concrete pile foundation, which is designed to use less concrete, which then, in turn, means less energy used in production. All of our timber is also FSC Certified, which means that it is guaranteed to be from sustainable forest programmes. Many of the materials we use are also ‘second-life’ recycled to create a composite which is strong, durable and eco-friendly. The design and construction methods we use are all designed to reduce as much energy consumption as possible in the production of our buildings.

Considering Our Actions

Let this give us all the chance to reflect on the negative impact some of our actions as humans, have on our beautiful nature. Sadly, the UK has exhausted their natural resources so much, that we have become one of the most nature depleted countries in the world.

For this reason, we here at Green Retreats feel a powerful urge to stand up and play a part in the restoration of our one-time glorious nature and wildlife. We feel a duty to raise awareness and take the steps necessary to do so.

One Small Step

Starting close to home, we started researching ways in which various organisations, trusts and charities were committing to standing up for wildlife. It wasn’t long before Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust caught our eye. Their campaign, Wilder Future, brings Badger, Ratty, Mole and Toad, from The Wind in the Willows, back to life. A childhood favourite for many of us. In the heart-wrenching trailer they’ve created, it shows what life would be like for our beloved characters in 2019. The campaign aims to put wildlife back on the map and urges everyone to take individual steps and take action. On their page, you are able to donate as much or as little as you possibly can. If you aren’t able to donate, you are also able to join their campaign, with steps you can take for nature’s recovery. You can also donate your time and become a volunteer with a BBOWT near you.
