The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the UK’s most renowned and influential architectural organisation have published their latest ‘Directory of Practices 2016’. The directory showcases numerous award winning projects from across the UK including the coveted Stirling Prize winner. Green Retreats are proud to have played a major role in one of these complex, awe-inspiring projects. We installed a beautiful cedar clad Inspiration 3m x 2m garden room during rigorous garden landscaping and home renovation at a property in Muswell Hill, London.

The Project

The remodelling of the spaces of this home have given a new lifestyle to this busy family, which includes two children and two dogs. The overall project consists of designs and materials of a certain quality and style that are functional and robust, yet aesthetically pleasing. Green Retreats were approached to add flare to the garden renovation aspects of the project as we install stunning, fully-inclusive garden rooms in just 2-5 days that do not compromise in quality.

An existing half-width ground floor extension was replaced with a new full width one, which has created an open-plan, zonal, family living space that flows onto the garden. The Inspiration garden room provided a stunning focal point for the architect to form their ideas for this open, functional and contemporary space. The rear elevation of the house, which has been finished in cedar, creates a architectural partnership between the main building and the garden room.

The use of modern materials and technology throughout the property renovation clearly defines the old from the new, allowing the original building to become part of the overall design. The mixture of old and new architecture is also why Green Retreats was selected to install one of our garden rooms as part of the project. Although distinctly contemporary in style, our garden rooms can be customised to meet the requirements of any garden space, whether that be modern or traditional.

The Garden Room

The 3m x 2m garden room is now used as a playroom and has been fitted with a beautiful set of 2.8m French doors, which stretch across the entire width of the building to allow for plenty of light. The extensive, yet highly efficient double glazing is also a fantastic way for the family to keep an eye on the children without the need to physically check on them whilst the opening lozenge window will also create an air-flow within the building on warmer, summer days. The white melamine internal walls within the garden room are also perfect for youngsters, as it offers a wipe-clean solution. Although small in stature, the building has been designed to complement the strikingly landscaped garden and greyscale fencing, making it clear why our range of garden rooms are so popular.
