Fantastic Room in a little London garden!
We now have an amazing room at the bottom of our garden that fits in beautifully and feels as though it has been there for ever. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the entire process was very straightforward.

Excellent choice of supplier for my Garden Studio! So pleased
Green Retreats deserve every single one of my star ratings! They have been very professional right from the start, from welcoming me to their warehouse to helping me make the right choice through to a fabulous installation. The finished studio is amazing, a top quality build and the installation teams were timely, polite and very hard-working.
Thanks to you all…what a fab company!!

Fantastic product and service to match
We had a 3.5m by 5m garden room installed last month and we are delighted with the result. We are using it as a home gym and love the extra space it has given us! The building also looks fantastic at the bottom of our garden. Green retreats have been an absolute pleasure to deal with. In summary I have been very impressed by both the product and the service provided by green retreats and highly recommend!
Garden Bars FAQs
If you are interested in one of our garden room buildings, contact us for a comprehensive brochure & price list, along with any additional queries you may have. A visit to one of our showrooms gives you a real feel of the quality we offer and is a great way to start your project.
We provide a free on-site design consultation service, allowing us to have a comprehensive look at your location, land and access. During this meeting, you are provided with samples of the building, and together we can design the perfect garden room to suit your requirements.
Planning permission is not normally required as our buildings fall under permitted development (built under 2.5m high externally). Most houses, even in conservation areas and areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), have permitted development rights.
Flats and listed buildings have no permitted development rights, so will always need planning permission. Don’t worry though, as planning is a relatively simple process for our garden rooms and we are on-hand to help with this process.
Our garden room structures will need to remain free-standing due to the nature of their construction. However, we can build as close as 400mm to any solid obstacle, such as your house.
We do not offer bespoke building options. However, we do offer many different sizes and styles to suit your tastes and budget. You can start to design your building using our visualiser.
We don’t offer a completely soundproof solution for your garden room. We do, however, offer an acoustic pack which reduces the transfer of sound to approximately -45db – however, this is not ‘soundproof’.
Although we use industry-leading acoustically laminated glass, this is the least effective component of our acoustic pack. Please bear in mind that the more glass you opt for in your garden room, the lesser the effect the acoustic pack will have.
We offer a complete electrical connection from your house to the garden room at an additional cost, which will be confirmed at your design consultation. However, you are more than welcome to use your own preferred electrician for this.
If you should opt to have your garden room building plastered, you can either paint the internal walls yourself or have our professional painter do it for you. If you choose to paint the room yourself, it’s worth noting that there will be no flooring, skirting or electrics to contend with as we will install these elements after painting making it far easier for you to complete.
If you are looking to install a bathroom or other facility that would require water to your building, we would be happy to liaise with your plumber of choice to ensure they are comfortable carrying out all plumbing work required to and from the building.
Yes, all of our buildings come as standard with a free-standing oil-filled radiator. We also offer a variety of heating options including wall-mounted radiators, underfloor heating and air conditioning.
A garden bar can go by many names depending on its style and purpose. Here are the most common terms for a garden bar:
1. Outdoor Bar – A general term for any bar located outdoors, often in a garden or patio setting.
2. Tiki Bar – Often used for tropical-themed outdoor bars, typically decorated with bamboo and thatch.
3. Patio Bar – Refers to a bar set up on a patio, often adjacent to a garden.
4. Beer Garden – A traditional outdoor area for enjoying beer and other drinks, often surrounded by plants and seating.
5. Garden Pub – A term used in some regions, particularly in the UK, to describe a pub with a garden or outdoor bar area.
Yes, in most cases, it is legal to have a bar in your garden for personal use. However, certain rules apply:
In most cases, you can have a garden bar without planning permission, as long as it’s a small, ground-level structure. No alcohol license is needed if you’re not selling drinks, but noise regulations still apply, and frequent loud gatherings could lead to complaints. Additional restrictions may apply if you live in a rented property or a conservation area, so it’s best to check local regulations beforehand.
A thoughtfully designed garden bar can be a standout feature, elevating your outdoor space’s aesthetics and functionality. Not only does it enhance your home’s market appeal, but it can also attract potential buyers, making your property more desirable and estimated to increase the value of your home by £50,000!
